1877 - Tribute to Kennedy's Sausages (and Pies) by Alan Edwards - 2007

Kennedy's Sausages, 137 High Street, PENGE

The Kennedy's shop in Penge High Street had an attractive and unusual fascia sign proclaiming KENNEDY'S SAUSAGES displayed in two lines. The white van could well be a delivery fresh from the Peckham Factory. This photo was taken on the 12th December 2007.

PUFF PASTE in Gold lettering on a Green background was an interesting feature in the wooden wall display unit. Note also the attractive Green, Cream and White wall tiles. A very tempting display of Cooked Meats, Black Puddings, Saveloys, Pastry, Bacon, Sausage Meat, Sausages and Chipolatas complete the scene. There is some Christmas tinsel and a hanging bell adorning the shop, sadly the closure notice is also posted to the glass display cabinet. Photo taken on 12th December 2007.

SAUSAGES in Gold lettering on a Green background was an unusual feature inside the Kennedy's Penge shop. Sadly the closure notice is posted to the glass display cabinet. Note the yellow plastic container within the stack of white ones, was there a reason for the yellow colour? Photo taken on 12th December 2007.

The hand written poster on the wall of Kennedy's Penge shop seen here on 12/12/2007 reads as follows :- "IT IS WITH MUCH REGRET THAT ALONG WITH ALL OTHER KENNEDY'S STORES THIS SHOP WILL CEASE TRADING ON 22ND DECEMBER 2007. WE WOULD LIKE TO THANK ALL OUR CUSTOMERS FOR THEIR CONTINUING SUPPORT OVER THE YEARS. SARAH & GIRLS."

Looking through the window of Kennedy's 137 High Street, Penge on 17/09/2008, almost 9 months after closure, the scene is a sad one, the large SAUSAGES sign is still in place. The smaller photo on the left shows a lovely ornate design on the wall tiles.

Three "SHOP TO LET" signs are seen where the attractive Kennedy's Sausages fascia sign used to be displayed. Sadly None of the original Kennedy's features remain inside this shop. Photo taken on 9/7/2009
